Safe Holiday Events
As we continue to chug along through this challenging year, we’ve all been forced to think outside of the box when it comes to entertainment; especially safe family fun entertainment. As the cold months arrive, our creativity needs to double as we can no longer shove the kids outside to play all day. To help give those imaginative brains a rest, we’ve put together a few socially distant events that are both safe and fun to do with the family.
LIGHT IT UP!
Most of us know about the 25-year tradition of Jolly Holiday Lights. Not only is it a fantastic light display, but it’s also an amazing fundraiser that helps raise money to grant Iowa children’s wishes; funding more than 1,000 wishes to date. This year the event will be held at Adventureland Park; November 27th-December 30th. But if you’re looking for something different this year, check out Santa’s Rock N Lights at Living History Farms. They’ve almost doubled the lights this year with over 700 tunnels, including a brand-new techno rainbow tunnel that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. This show runs from November 27th – January 3rd.
SANTA SIGHTING.
Uneasy about standing shoulder to shoulder in line for a glimpse of Santa? Waukee is hosting a Winterfest on Wheels this year. The annual event will be held December 4th from 6-8 at the Waukee Public Works Building. Santa and his helpers will deliver goodies straight to you, no need to leave the comfort of your vehicle! Register in advance to ensure his tasty treats are available for you and the family!
GIDDY UP!
What says holidays more than a horse-drawn carriage ride? This event is a great way to experience the magic of the holidays while still practicing social distance. Downtown Pella is known for its charm, so this festive event is sure to impress those of all ages. With numerous dates and times to choose from, be sure to register for this trotting good time.
BRING THE BALLET HOME.
Ballet Des Moines is offering numerous virtual packages that are sure to excite dancer and dancer enthusiasts of all ages. Virtual dance lessons, sugarplum costumes, ornament projects and hot cocoa! You name it, they provide it. The a la carte style packages allow you to pick and choose the entertainment that your family will love most. Browse their website to pick your package today!
STAY COZY.
Too cold to bundle up and leave the house? There are plenty of things you can do from the comfort of your home. Holiday baking, gingerbread house making, snowman building or holiday crafts. Festive dance parties with the littles, or cozy popcorn and movie nights with elders. Sometimes the best nights are spent at home together in your warmest pajamas.
Whether it’s lights, dancing, horses, or the big guy himself, this holiday season doesn’t need to bring added stress; there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the magic of the season. Try out one of the events above or snuggle in for your own night of fun. Simply being together is what’s important.
